Richard "Dixie" Atkinson

Richard "Dixie" Atkinson has spent over 40 years as a photographer. He received his formal technical training in photography at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. He then rounded his training by earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a minor in photography from Ladycliff College in New York state. He attributes his "eye" to his education in the arts.

He specializes in scenics and landscapes. He currently has on-line galleries from trips to Yellowstone NP, Grand Teton NP, Great Smoky Mountains NP, Yosemite NP, Mesa Verde NP, Joshua Tree NP, Zion NP, Death Valley NP and various other national and state parks in Alabama, California, Georgia, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia. He will be adding more photographs to these existing galleries over time as well as new galleries. These photos include scenics, covered bridges, lighthouses, old mills, sunsets, etc.

Dixie's photographic projects for 2007 include shooting in various national parks in the western United States with the highlights being shoots in Alaska and Glacier National Park in Montana this coming fall.

Each year Dixie does a "Fall Colors" trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This year he will do his "Fall Colors" shoot at the end of the trip to various national parks in Alaska and Glacier National Park in Montana. A photographic series on lighthouses has been started and a new lighthouse gallery with photos from the Outer Banks of North Carolina and coastal South Carolina and Georgia have been added.
